Information About Dolphins

Dolphins see with ears
It is known that the ancestors of dolphins lived on land. But, having begun his second aquatic life, the ancestors of dolphins found a very unpleasant property of the aquatic environment: even in very clean water on 10-20 meters will not see anything. And the ancestors of dolphins decided to “learn to see the ears.” We know that you could hear in the aquatic environment even better than in the air: the sound is distributed, almost 5 times faster and at much greater distance.
But to focus on hearing, it is necessary to make things sound. The Dolphins have adapted to this purpose, a sound wave, more precisely, a short click sound, or radar pulse.
Sound in water is distributed with a constant velocity (1500 m / s). The farther the object, the more time you want the sound pulse ran from the Dolphin to the object and back as an echo. Experiments showed that the dolphin is able to estimate this time, and hence the distance to the object lotsiruemogo.
Surprising thing about this is that the dolphin quickly converts complex audio information in their auditory system: an echo from the object of interest dolphin hears only about 0.02 seconds, and then sends the probe pulse.
Dolphin with a sound wave is able to detect a difference in distance to the subject of several centimeters (a distance of 5-10 meters). It is believed that dolphins are able to detect with the echo shoals of fish at a distance of up to several hundred meters.
Type of hearing in the dolphin has a “front gate” in those places on the head of a dolphin, which was once among their ancestors had ears. It is known that ear not in the dolphin, and external auditory opening strongly compressed or almost overgrown. Nevertheless, the sound they are holding very well.
